Klondike Derby

Sled skis waxed? Dogs exercised and ready to run?  Got your dog commands rehearsed?  Hike! Gee! Haw! Whoa!  Watching "Life Below Zero" or "Yukon Men" and ready to get out?  Here's your chance! The 2018 version of the Four Rivers District Klondike Derby will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Kinder Farm Park. The Klondike Derby is a day-long competition for Boy Scout Patrols and Webelos Dens held in mid-Winter as a challenge to preparation and teamwork.  This year we'll be running two scoring loops, one for Patrols, the other for Dens.  In addition, we'll be awarding prizes for Most Period-Authentic, Best Packed, Best Prepared, and Engineering Marvel.  We'll also have an award for the best station on each loop.  Klondike involves 10-15 hands-on challenge stations designed to test the Scouts’ knowledge of fieldcraft and their teamwork. But the greater challenge is to dress and prepare for whatever the weather offers.  We’ve held successfully Klondike Derbies in 9 degree temps with a foot of snow on the ground! The events are especially appropriate for Webelos II headed into Boy Scouts and younger Boy Scouts through First Class rank.  Older Boy Scouts can coach their younger Troop members. Some Klondike events also have separate high adventure challenge stations on a different trail for older Boy Scouts and Venturing Scouts.  Klondike Derby is usually held the third Saturday of January.
